Genuine Wohlhaupter UPA 6 boring / facing / taper-boring head.
Made in Germany.
The 2"-diameter straight shank is easily removable / interchangeable with 6 cap screws.
EXCELLENT working condition. Everything slides and spins super smoothly.
I completely disassembled it (mostly just because I wanted to see what made it work) and cleaned every part in a hot ultrasonic bath. The internals are really in excellent condition. I saw little to no wear on any of the components.
The mechanism that drives this thing is insane. I counted more than 150 individual components when I pulled it apart (see photos).
Upon reassembly,
I replaced all the internal springs (because one went flying across my shop and is lost forever. The replacement springs came in a pack of 12, so I just replaced them all in the process),
I replaced all the set screws that hold the boring bar in place with high-quality dog point set screws.
I used only Wohlhaupter-approved grease (Dow Corning Molykote) and way oil (Mobil Vactra #2). Pictured for reference, but not included in the sale.
This boring head is quite large and quite heavy -- about 53 pounds unpackaged. Free local pickup if you're near Minneapolis.
