    Description

Featured in this auction is a vintage pottery bowl or planter made by the Brush-McCoy Pottery Co.  This beautiful piece is marked only with an underscored "01" and is also referenced in Brush-McCoy collector's guides as shape "01" which was produced in the 1920's.  Brush-McCoy made this piece as part of its "Colonial Mat Green" line which included a design of geometrically-scalloped panels encircling the bowl.  There are small production details like extraneous tags of clay and hand-turning marks inside, as well as small glaze pinholes and glaze peppering.  Visible on the base are some extraneous kiln marks and a small, shallow nick on one of the raised "feet".  There are also minor glaze rubs and drips both inside and out; however, the bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs.  The bowl is finished in a thick, drip cucumber-green glaze that has curdled on the piece creating a rich glaze texture.  I understand that this matte-green glaze was made with copper oxide which causes it to darken with age.  The bowl is 6" wide at the shoulder, about 2-1/2" tall, and about 4-1/2" wide at the rim opening.  The piece also shows some gentle wear but is very clean over all.  Check out all 11 photos!  This little gem would be perfect for any American art pottery or Brush-McCoy Pottery collector.  Check out my other pottery listings!
